Real Salt Lake -- some random musings
Real Salt Lake won its second meaningless match of the year last week, as it defeated the Chinese national team with a mark of 1:0.Now, whether this does anything for the team's confidence as it takes on FC Dallas tonight at Rice Eccles remains to be seen. It sure would be nice to see Real win one game this season. This season is reminding me of watching the 1996-97 BYU basketball team go 1-25... except RSL has yet to get that one elusive win. Perhaps we can drum up the Utah State basketball team from that same year to give RSL the lone victory it seems to be lacking. (Utah State was BYU's lone victory, if you didn't grasp that.)
Not that RSL has lost every game. In fact, they've amassed a grand total of 6 points in the scoring system... all on draws. The official record as of this writing is 0-3-6. Is that much better than 2-7-0? The point total would be the same, however it might feel good to outscore an opponent, at least once in a while.
I bring all this up because the sports season in Utah is on its downswing as we wait for the NBA draft and the Rocky Mountain Review (or is that Revue?). I'm sure watching CJ Miles, Ronnie Brewer, Dee Brown and whomever the Jazz pick this year rip up the "competition" in the summer league will be worth a podcast or two. In the meantime, we'll deal with Sandy Stadium construction and the surrounding politics (I hope they come up with a better name than that... someone is bound to kick in some dough for naming rights. Heck, for $20 I'd be willing to kick in and name it "UtahSportsCast Stadium"... got a nice ring to it, dontcha think?), which would be a lot easier for the tax-paying public to swallow if the team would win a freakin' game... too much to ask?
