Episode 28 – Once again, everybody is losing
I had not put the math together until Zach mentioned it on the show, but the Utah Jazz have lost 10 of their last 15 games, including the last four in a row. That is the worst of the news, but not the end of it. One of those games was a three point loss to the Sonics that came after the Jazz gave away a 20 point lead in the FOURTH quarter. It gets worse still. Last Monday’s working at the hands of the Golden State Warriors removed the Utah Jazz from that critical fourth spot in the Western Conference Standings. Now
We, as fans, have gone through this sort of up-and-down stuff more than once during the season. The Jazz seem to have a propensity for streakiness, which is certainly a symptom of the overall youth of the team. I don’t like playing the “young card” as an excuse, but this is more of an explanation. I am certain Jerry Sloan does not condone losing (regardless of the experience level of certain key players), and neither should the fans. We are the ones who support the team, after all. Larry Miller may be the owner, but without fan money there isn’t much to own.
I would hope this team has one last winning streak in them; one that could carry them out of the regular season and into the second round of the playoffs. Before the season began I might have been satisfied with the idea of just a playoff appearance, but not any more. Last year, the Jazz finished at 41-41 and missed the playoffs. This year that same record would probably get the Jazz (or any team) into the postseason, so just making the playoffs after a decent step of improvement won’t cut it. I don’t think they have to win the whole thing, but I do think they should win the first round. Hopefully the team can get back on track at home against the Nuggets at home tonight.
There is much more in the podcast, but as usual, I don’t want to spoil it. Please check it out and let us know what you think!
