Episode 19 – The unexpected BCS Champion, Pro and College Hoops

Listen Here!

We missed the show last week due to illness (Zach was on the IR last Tuesday), and I was shocked at how rusty we were after just one bye week. Needless to say, the show is very average-to-poor this week, with both of us coming in virtually unprepared. Even Ohio State looked at us and said we should get our act together and show a little heart.

Actually, I shouldn’t throw both of us under the bus in this confession of mediocrity. Zach (“Mr. Automatic”) did just fine, as he always does. But I just stunk up the joint. I was everything Jerry Sloan hates: disinterested, lazy, and podcasted like I didn’t even want to be out there. He would have broken three or four clipboards today.

So, I guess I cannot fairly recommend listening to this particular show. There are some amusing parts, and maybe the whole thing would be good for a laugh, but consider yourself warned.

That having been said, I will shake off this mini-slump and be back in top form next week. When I talk about the Utah Jazz I promise not to be distracted by open internet windows. When we bring up the Top Three in Utah I will be sure to engage myself in the conversation, rather than just wait for it to be over (not to keep going back to Jerry Sloan, but he calls it trying to end the game rather than just continuing to play). I double promise not to make any more accidental obscene references when referring to Ray Giacoletti.

In short, tune in next week… You are welcome and invited to listen this week, as I said before. In fact, maybe you can get some sort of value out of it. We did talk about the BCS Championship Game, which was cool, and we shared some thoughts about the unlikely ending of Boise State’s Cinderella Season. Speaking of college sports, we talked a bit about both Utah and BYU’s basketball programs, and the vastly different directions they are going right now. Then there was the discussion of the Utah Jazz, who are still playing well enough to be one of the NBA’s top teams. We really need to decide at what point its okay to just consider them a good team. Now? After the All-Star Break? April?

We also had a good Top Three in Utah, so the week wasn’t a complete loss. Here were our choices:

3) Paul Milsap

2) Keena Young

1) Deron Williams

We also gave an honorable mention to Carlos Boozer, but he didn’t make it on this week’s list, for some reason. Oh well, he’ll probably be back next week.

Okay, so I guess it wasn’t that bad, although it sure felt like it. Just, keep the mediocrity in mind and try not to judge too harshly. Thanks (and apologies, I suppose) to our awesome sponsor ShieldZone!
