Show six was coming strong, but we dropped back into a cover two and blitzed the linebackers until victory was firmly ours. We want to thank our sponsor, ShieldZone, and everyone who believed in us, even though everyone else disrespected us and the press kept saying we weren’t good enough. We’re going to Disneyland.
The latest games for BYU and Utah will likely be remembered for a long time to come. First, BYU shook several monkeys off their backs and exorcised a whole gaggle of demons to pull out a well-needed, well-deserved win over reigning conference champ TCU. The 31-17 shellacking of #17 TCU was the first win over a ranked opponent for many moons, and the first for Bronco Mendenhall’s young program. John Beck shook off a high ankle sprain and he led the offense to the type of performance we have been anticipating all year.
The antithesis of that performance was Utah’s meaningless scrimmage against the #22 Boise State Broncos. I did not write “meaningless scrimmage” to imply the game wasn’t important, because it most certainly was. I put “meaningless scrimmage” because that is all the more effort and heart we saw from the University of Utah. Boise State came in ready, tough and scary, and Utah was overwhelmed in every aspect of the game. Eric Weddle intercepted two of Jared Zabransky’s passes, but they might as well have been practice drills for all the more they helped the Utah cause.
In the podcast we also talk about the MLB playoff races and Real Salt Lake’s hunt for their own playoff spot. We will also mention a few things about the Utah Jazz as they start training camp. Without question, I think we’re both looking forward to this season as the Jazz try to get back into the playoffs.
In other news: One of the players listed on the Utah Jazz’s training camp roster, Frans Steyn, is married to Ty Detmer’s sister, Lori. So… Huh. Big sports news of the day, I guess.
As always, thanks and respect to our sponsor, ShieldZone! Check them out at ShieldZone.com!
