Episode Four – One very lopsided win, one heartbreaking loss… plus more as RSL aims for the playoffs

Show number four was day-to-day and listed as questionable, but suited up when game time came around and the coach put us in. We are really, really trying to make this a weekly thing, but of course jobs, families and busy lives keep getting in the way. However, we are four out of four now, and momentum is on our side.

This last Saturday was a big day for the Utah Sports Cast, as so many things were going on. We were terribly disappointed in the late afternoon/early evening when the Cougars dropped another game they could have won. It was the same story as the Arizona game: Defense looks pretty good, offense has decent numbers, but stupid mistakes and fear of close games keeps them from winning.

The evening game – Utah vs. Utah State was anticlimactic at best. The game was over for all intents and purposes after about the first minute and a half, although the Aggies were a spirited bunch and the cheerleaders never stopped cheering. It was not exactly a great win for Utah, as it was anticipated to be a blowout.

It was also, of course, a very bad omen for Utah State (and we love Utah State around here), who has yet to score an offensive touchdown or field goal this year. Their only score so far was an interception returned for a touchdown against Wyoming, in a game USU lost 38-7. Think about that: In their first three games not only has the offense for Utah State failed to produce a single score, but they also haven’t even managed to get the ball into decent field goal range. Yikes.

We also spent some of your valuable time discussing the playoff hopes for Real Salt Lake, the Major League Baseball Pennant races, and mentioned a few headlines that might interest the average local sports fan. Like us.
